The paper examined the use of Internet search engines for information retrieval the paper discussed the distinctions between a web browser and search engines and their types the needs for the users to have knowledge about search strategies and search techniques were also highlighted. Limiting and expanding search results which were considered very important for a successful internet searching were discussed with practical examples. The paper ends with conclusion that the internet has become an important source for all types of information but to retrieve important source the users must have the skills and the knowledge of using the internet to find useful resources that will address their information needs. The paper recommended the need for academic and public libraries to spearhead the training of their users on finding good and reliable information from the Internet
