The menace of rape has drastically become a serious epidemic not just Nigeria but globallyrnwhere it is daily recorded that men sexually abuseassault the female gender and in factrnforcefully have carnal knowledge of them regardless of their age. However despite thernwidespread outcry over the rising cases of rape in Nigeria there seems to be no end to thisrnsocial threat. As such there is a dire need to address it with a view of curbing it. Hence anrninstitution such as the library which deals with the adequate provision of information andrnknowledge is required to acknowledge its role in the quest of bringing the scourge of rape tornan end in the contemporary society. Thus it is to this end that this paper provides arnconceptual basis for the roles that the library plays in terms of curbing the menace of rape inrnthe Nigerian society.
